Rated 3 out of 5 by from FLARES UP REALLY BAD I brought the 590s about 9 month ago and love all the features that it has, but when i started making burgers for the family , it flared up so bad that I had throw all the burgers away because I couldn't get them out without getting burnt. I used the grill I would say about 5 times total and even took it apart to clean it because I was told it could be grease build up, but still got very bad flare ups. Im very disappointed. After buying a new home all I wanted to do was relax and grill , but now all I have is stress and burnt burgers. Any help or advice would be very appreciated. I would hate to buy a new one , with this one less then a year old.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Grill. but has flaws I have had this grill for 2 1/2 years and it has been great with cooking food. My only big complaint is that the Cast Iron Grilling Grates have rusted out and have tried the restoration process numerous times with no luck. With that being said the flavor-wave that protects the burners have also completely rusted out. This is hard to comprehend as i also bought the cover for $70.00 to protect it from the elements. Overall, the grill is great but i did not think that i would have to be looking to replace it after a few years of use. I'm not sure i will be looking into another BroilKing with the price paid you would think you were getting better quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Barbecue - Minor Assembly Issue This unit had everything I wanted in a new barbecue. I've only had the chance to use it a few times so far but it has definitely met or exceeded my expectations. I did have a problem with the assembly as the interior support does NOT line up with the pre-drilled holes and I had to drill two new holes in the bottom of the cabinet in order to do the install. What's up with that? I don't like "all picture" instructions and would likely have had a much more difficult time with assembly but for a truly wonderful step-by-step video on youtube. Gotta love youtube. 🙂

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful Grill I have only had my new grill for about a month but really enjoy the quality and features that it has. I have been without a grill for several years and decided to start again. My research lead me to the Baron 440. It cooks wonderfully and provides me with fantastic results, even cooking complex dishes. The grill cooks evenly on all the burners and having 4 burners provides multiple-zone cooking. My only suggestion for a change is to replace the diagonal stabilizer in the cabinet with one that is more perpendicular to improve the storage capacity (maybe make it a shelf). Thanks for making such a great quality product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unsatisfied / disappointed customer Purchased the Baron 590 gas grill 2 years ago from Lowes Canada in Ontario. Was really looking forward to owning a top notch well made Broil King as I have been saving up for this. All my cast iron grids after regular seasoning all rusted out, cook box and burners are all rusted in less than 2 years. contacted customer service in regards to the cast iron grids and just received replacements. Thank you. Now my burners, cook box and flavour waves are full of rust and the bbq struggles to keep the heat and temperature up. Have no idea as to why this is happening to such a well made & designed product...... Very disappointed in the quality of the BBQ. Help Broil King!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Grill! I bought the grill at Lowe's a month back. I am well pleased with the grill. It comes up to temperature quickly. It cooks evenly. The controls are easily accessible. Te grill is well built, And, did I mention it is MADE IN THE USA! That is a plus in itself. The only thing I would add to this grill would be specific indicators on the heat range. The know shows dots as indicators, but it doesn't show High Medium Low. It's not a big thing once you figure it out, but it would be a plus to have that specific thing labeled. And, I did not find the answer in the manual. I called Broil King and they told me. By the way, their customer service is great too.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good and not so good The good... I purchased this grill a few weeks ago (early summer) and have used it approx a dozen times. It gets hot quickly and cooks fairly evenly. I like the design of the grates... they're heavy duty grade and sear meats nicely. Anything I BBQ'd on this grill so far has come out very tasty! Flare ups are not too much of an issue even with the greasiest foods and marinades. Now the not so good... even though the grill has never been exposed to rain or significant moisture, the grates, the burners and the burner guards are rusting very rapidly. I brush the grill down after each use and never use water on any parts whatsoever. I even checked the vinyl cover and it's not leaking at all. I can only conclude that this is a defect in the metal composition. It will be interesting to see how the manufacturer responds when I request replacements parts.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Rusted Cooking Grids I have been pleased with this grill overall after purchasing it about a year ago. However, even though I followed the instructions for curing and and care of the cast iron cooking grids, and keeping the grill covered, the grids developed deep rust and even wire brushing won't remove it. I am researching buying replacement grids.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Broil King Baron 440 ] Cons: Its not a bad grill for the money, but there are a few things that need to be fixed. Like the back upper grill fell down and I can't get it back up. Also they need to add a stop at the off position for the gas knob. I want to rise the flame to the highest but sometimes I shut it off do to there is no stop at full and then push it in to shut it off. A bit of a pain to put together. Pros: It can get really hot for that searing effect on your steaks and I really like that. Not to much flare up from the fat burning off, just a little. Better then most other grills I have had. Rolls easy, and the temper gauge is pretty accurate, I tested it. It looks nice too. All and all its a good grill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality materials and build, easy to assemble This is an appliance that applies heat to food, so how could any grill earn five stars? Because it stands above the rest in many ways. Well thought features. Quality materials and construction. Easy to assemble. Quick response from customer service to replace a defective part. I believe this grill will last as long as the 14 year-old competitor's grill that finally wore out. The only items that could use improvement are that the lowest setting is not different enough from the highest, making temperature regulation more tricky without turning burners off individually, and the stiff detent for the"high" setting makes it easy to accidentally leave a burner on high when you intend to turn it off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Where Have You Been? I never heard of Broil King gas grills. I took 3 months researching gas grills before I purchased one. On a website that compared gas grills, I saw Broil King grills rated very highly. My Baron 420 was very reasonably price and was a great value. It was easy to put together. Heavy duty construction. After owning it for 3 months I can honestly say it is the best gas grill I have ever owned. I can actually turn the grill down and cook on low. We are very happy with the quality of the grill and how it cooks everything I have thrown at it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from This Grill is Hard to Start I have used this grill for the last two months and on numerous attempts, the grill has failed to reach the full hot operating temperature. The gas regulator has some sort of safety feature that tries to prevent run-away gas flow that engages if you don't SLOWLY open the gas tank valve, and then wait a couple of minutes before igniting the grill. The end result is the grill lights off, but never gets above 300 degrees. By the time you notice, you have to shut the grill down, wait until the regulator resets, then start the gas ignition sequence over again. I have never had this happen on any of my less expensive grills and it is extremely frustrating as it should not be this hard to start a gas grill.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Broil King Barron Has Not Held Up Well Over Time I bought this gas grill approximately 5 years ago from Lowe's. Over the past five years it has been used approximately six or seven times during the summer months . After each use, the grill was cleaned , grates heated and scraped and the cover was put in place. The grill has remained on the back deck the entire time. Water has gathered in the bottom cabinet with resulting rust on the metal floor. The inside of the metal grill lid has a heavy flaky deposit of what appears to be rust that falls down when the lid is closed. I have scraped and steel brush this material but am concerned about food contamination. Light rust has developed on the steel side tables despite my constant cleaning diligence. This grill was not an inexpensive product and I feel that the weather cover does not adequately provide weather protection nor does the steel cabinet and stainless steel cladding hold up to the water that the cover fails to repeal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality ! I did a lot of research before I decided on Broil King .It had all of the features I needed and is built solidly with high quality materials. In the summer I use my grill just like an oven to avoid heating up the house. The four burners really help to cook like an oven with indirect heat. The heavy cast iron cooking grates are great for searing steaks and chops to seal in the juices for juicy meat every time. I've had my grill for a little over two weeks and already made excellent strip steaks ,baked ravioli , garlic toast, grilled vegetables ,hand cut steak fries ,barbequed chicken ,and cornbread ,all cooked to perfection ! One of the best investments I have made for my home life .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the Broil King! I wanted a 4 burner grill with two fold down side shelves...the 420 S was the answer. A great grill and my hat goes off to the Broil King engineer's...the assembly proved to me that it has solid construction and the design was well thought out with shipping and assembly in mind. So far It grills everything to perfection with no complaints...North America Strong!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from One of the worst grills I have ever owned I bought this grill to replace a Weber gas grill that served me well for over 12 years. I tried to save a little money and try the Broil King Baron. Big mistake. The grates started rusting within a month, even though I oiled the grates with grape seed oil as recommended. The stainless shelves started rusting as well- even covered when not in use. I sent a complain to customer service and was told to use bar keepers friend polish and reoil the grates. Didn’t work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes Grilling Fun Again Purchased the Baron 440 this summer to replace a similar sized worn out grill. What a difference! Even heat, much better heat control with outstanding results on all types of food. It took about an hour to assemble, the directions were a little vague but o.k. to work through. Burner and grate components and gas delivery system are well constructed. I anticipate this grill will provide years of service. Also included were some cooking instructions for the "perfect " steak and recipes for all types of dishes- a nice touch. I recommend this grill to anyone needing to replace a older or cheap grill not performing to expectations.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed I purchased the Baron 590 a while back and am disappointed at the depth of the lid. I attempted both a beer can chicken and a rear flame prime rib roast at different times. The lid would not close with the beer can chicken and the 4.5 lb prime rib roast on rotisserie kept hitting the lid. From the top of the rotisserie rod to the underside of the lid is roughly 51/4” whereas the 490 is roughly 7 1/4”. Taking the grates off when it is not necessary is a nusaince. I hope that a better design for the lid is in the works and i sure hope I am on the list to receive one. The unit itself is tremendous other then the lid shortcomings.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Assembly Parts I'm halfway thru putting this thing together. IMO it's a very poorly designed assembly process. There are lots of parts and the sheet metal screws provided must pass thru two and three pieces of metal to hold pieces together. In many area's the holes don't line up very well and the angles required to use the screw drivers necessary to put it together are extremely tight making it virtually impossible to securely join some of the parts. Several of the screw heads have stripped making it even more frustrating. I think they should have designed the unit using lock nuts and bolts to hold it together rather than the screws. I just hope once I get through putting it together the performance of the grill is better than poorly designed assembly parts.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hot.....way too hot, burns everything I bought this a year ago to replace an older Weber, and after trying to use it a dozen or so times, it is a chore to cook anything. Burgers, flame fest; chicken legs, flame fest. All burners on low; turn off some of the burners, flames, no matter what, flames. Honestly, I believe the burners are too close to the grates. Got my old, old Weber back out, no problem. Here I sit with an $800 dollar grill that is useless. Unless there is something out of adjustment from the factory, this is the worst grill ever. Sorry, not sorry. The grill does look good, however. Impressed quite a few people, as long as I don't try to cook on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lije this grill I bought this grill to replace a 12 yr old grill I had rebuilt twice. I really like this grill it performs great. I do a lot of rotisserie and smoking. The warming rack removes easy to accommodate this. I have two suggestions for the grill. The grease burner plate or the grill grate could be raised or lowered as a standard wood chip smoker box is 1/4 to tall the grill grate fits on top of one no issue but a little space would be better. Inside the grill the support piece that holds the right side is needed but it limits storing a lot inside the grill. These are to minor issues that have not stopped me from loving this grill.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst cooking Grates ever. Only 6 months old and the coating on the cooking grates flaked off and was getting on food. Now coating is all off and now rusted. I contacted customer service and sent pictures and they would not do any thing. They sent a you tube link on using grapeseed oil to coat the grates. Did not work still rust. I have 2 of these grills from Lowes at my cabins in Pigeon Forge Tn. and need to replace the grates. I will be going with Weber next time. I have 5 cabins and they will all need grills in the future. So much for made in USA . Buy a Weber Grill !!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Unit! I've cooked many meals on this new BBQ. It has performed very, very well. I am very impressed with how quickly the unit heats up. I am impressed with the even heat distribution. I am impressed with the amount of cooking space for the price point. The assembly was easier than I had expected. Overall, I am very impressed with this unit. I had high expectations and those have been exceeded.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cooks Great I bought this grill last year and never had a problem with it. It sits on my deck and I keep it covered so the exterior of the grill is in great shape. The grill heats up fast, had no problems with flare ups as I use indirect heating for fatty food such as chicken. The only problem that I am having is the rusting of the grill grates. So I did see the article on how to solve this issue, so I will try that. So I went to buy new grates and each grate is sold separately and the total cost was about $180.00. But I do truly enjoy the grill and would recommend for others to buy. Just make sure that the section on how to maintain the grill is read from the web site.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All-Round Solid Performer I purchased the BBQ several months ago & so far I'm extremely happy with its performance. Good fit & quality of parts & I assembled it myself in about 2 hours...a fairly easy task from the manual supplied. We BBQ quite a lot & have been able to test most of its varied cooking methods including the rear burner/rotisserie, direct searing & grilling, indirect/oven/drip pan & the side burner. It took a bit to get used to temperature control but once at temperature it maintained it with ease & there are no hot/cold spots that I've been able to determine. It provides enough grilling space & heat zones to grill steaks, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, peppers & asparagus for 6 with ease. The best part is that my wife loves what I cook on the Baron 590 so if she's happy, I'm happy! Thank-you Broil King!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed I thought when buying my Baron back in spring of 2014 that I was making a smart decision spending a little more on a quality grill. Instead my cast iron grills rusted within a year despite me taking care of them as instructed. It's my fault that I didn't look into the warranty until it had expired but I will never buy a Broil King product again. I have never posted a review of anything before but every time I use the bbq I just get filled with such frustration. Best of luck to anyone else purchasing one but I'd suggest you stay away.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from hmmmm... so far not thrilled So i don't usually write reviews buuuut here goes. I just purchased the Baron s590. The first issue I have is the plastic washer and screw that hold the bottom of the door. The washer was to small, I went back to the store and they mention that they are aware of the problem...great! I call the toll free number on the assembly manual and she tells me to watch the assembly video on the website, guess what the link is not working soooo I go unto youtube and bingo bango its there oh but its from 2014. And it's different. Long story short I get it all assembled according to the booklet and it's not level, its warped. The doors are not even as in one is touching the bottom magnet and the other is not and rubbing against the top. The lid is sealing on one side but not the other. FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I haven't even fired it up yet... stay tuned for the sequel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not happy with Warranty Within a couple of months of purchase the chrome on the name plate/heat gauge began to peel. Was heading back to Canada for summer so called about warranty when we returned. I was told that this flaw was only 100% covered for 90 days and I would have to pay for shipping the replacement part. I guess I could leave the peeling name plate so everyone who comes over could see the poor quality of the part which unfortunately suggests poor quality. Other than that the grill works great

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not very happy with this product! I have had this grill for 2 years as of October, 2016 and am experiencing deteriorating parts, including a burner that has totally rusted through the burner wall, a collector box that has rusted through both the upper and lower front of the box. I shop vac the fire box several times a year to remove metal flaking that accumulates on the grease shields and flav-R bars. I assume that the rusted burner and both the upper and lower front of the collector box will be replaced without charge based on the warranty as stated. It seems to me that both the burners and collection box should last at least 2 years before failing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great Grill at First/ I purchase my Baron 440 from Lowes about one year ago. Everything worked great for the first 6 months. As mentioned in any other reviews I have a terrible problem with rust on the cooking grids, I have tried to clean the rust many times but it continues to come back. I don't feel it is safe to cook on this grill. I think my only option would be to purchase new grids. The cost of better grids is very high.
