Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a good start Bought this grill to replace a weber SmokeFire. My initial impression was that the build quality was much better than the weber. It started well, with the initial burn in and then some rib-eyes, then it stopped working. I called service and they determined the hot rod had failed. I had started the grill twice in less than 48 hours and it died. When I spoke to customer service I asked that if replacement parts could be expedited, but they decided it was not worthy of the shipping and it's been a week and a half. Weber was at least responsive within a day or two when I had issues. The customer service rep from Broil King seemed to not really care that this grill failed after two days.Hoping this was an anomaly, but all signs point to the problem being bigger than just the grill.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All you'll ever need ! Did a fair bit of research with other smoker, and pellet grill owners, and decided that Broil King was the answer. Couldn't have been happier! From low temp smoking right thru grilling steaks (600F) with perfect grill marks. Best thing about grilling on the pellet grill.. NO FLARE-UPS !We use it 3 or more times a week.. smoking, roasting (love that wood fired oven taste), and grilling. Trays (vs hanging buckets) for the ashes and grease, keep the pets from getting at them. And yes.. works fine at -40F ...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Monster Machine! Everything works wonderfully. Even temps and smokes, rotisserie is a nice touch, the grilling sear has been perfect, burgers come out amazing, have not had one jam or issue with this auger so far and I've gone through about 100lbs of pellets. App works great. Solid thick metal that keeps in the heat. I monitored the temp of an 8lb pig shoulder for 16 hours or so and it was consistent on the smoker temp, and the pig meat hit 200 and melted in my gloves. I bought one half the price from some guy named Joe in Oklahoma, and frankly it was junk, constant auger jams, igniter issues, and worse. My Regal Pellet 500 just works. As it should be.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible design 6 months into a run around. Can’t get more than 450 degrees inside and LED readout shows 600. With the 225 degree button, it reached 195 and no more. Customer service keeps blaming me for their, like I can’t read and follow instructions. Big mistake, this is an absolute piece of junk!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Temperature fluctuations I took delivery of my BK pellet pro a week ago. This past weekend I used it for the first time. I did ribs, the 3,2,1 method. I set the grill at a smoke temp of 210F, waited for it to warm up properly before I put the ribs on. The next thing I know, the temp has risen to 225F and stayed there for at least 20 minutes, then it dropped to 189F and stayed there for at least 20 minutes. The temp kept fluctuating through the whole process. The result was dried out, tough ribs. Not at all like I used to get from my other pellet grill. I am very disappointed. I bought this grill because I liked the new features the BK added, like the ash removal system, the cast iron grids, etc. I have always been a BK fan ( I own a BK Imperial 590, which I thought this would be a great mate for). I contacted Broil King about this problem, thinking it may be a faulty controller. there response was that fluctuations, of up to 30F, are normal under ideal circumstances. How are you going to cook great food with this kind of temperature fluctuations?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk I bought this smoker about 4 months ago. I cooked burgers on it twice and smoked a roast, and after that I couldn’t get it to heat up. I called and they sent me a new hot rod, I put it in and nothing it would not get hot, just kept putting pellets in, I called and they sent me a new control panel and temperature sensor still nothing. I called again someone told me I was using the wrong pellets even though I tried telling them it wouldn’t even light I’m sure that had nothing to do with the pellets. I bought new pellets nothing. Called again and am currently waiting for another hot rod. All they will do is replace parts, which would be great if it would work. I asked the last person I spoke with about trying to trace the voltage and they knew nothing, I’m ready to take it to the dump.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t buy this! I’ve owned this for this for two months and I’ve been able to fully cook my meal on it only once. I’ve been embarrassed several times when I had company over for dinner and it wouldn’t work. The Hot Rod part has been replaced twice. Broil King will not let me return it and they will not offer any support or help to try and get it working. I spent $1200 and I’ll be taking it to the dump

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Constant jams I bought this a year ago expecting great things from it. It started off well, it’s well build and insulated well but has frequent jams. I have had to remove the auger 4-6 times . I use broil king pellets and store them in a dry place. This is not a good enough product for the cost. I have ruined two pork cooks and another defrost of moose sausage, pork ribs, and chicken wings is now relegated to the BBQ because of the jams. This is not good enough for the price.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Auger won't turn I used this pellet grille 6 times now and as far as using the grille I think the control panel is straight forward . Like the temp probes. Now for the not so good. When I tried firing it up last time I used it the auger wasn't moving so after 20 min I took it apart, got down to the fire pot and tried to jiggle the auger and away it went so I thought some hard material maybe was in the pellets . The last time I used it I could not get the auger to mover at all had to remove the pellet box and remove the auger completely. From what I could see just looked like a bunch of ash in the auger tube. NOT IMPRESSED!!! Put it back together and it works but how often am I going to have to do that! I think the motor just isn't strong enough and any little thing it's stops turning . im sure they have an excuse like it's the pellets you were using or moon wasn't in proper alignment with the stars that day. You might want to look at another brand

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NO CUSTOMER SERVICE I purchased a Broil King Regal 500 Pellet smoker in late February 2020. I have used it less than 5 times and now the grill won't ignite. After numerous amounts of time I determined that the heating element or hot rod is defective. I have called twice and been disconnected both times after 15 minutes on hold. I have emailed 3 times and no response at all. I wish I would have bought another brand.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Is Smokin’!! Bought about a month ago. Have used 3 bags of pellets so far. Love this smoker. Easy to use. Easy to clean. Smoke penetrates meat all the way through! Rotisserie is a great option that we have never used in the past. Highly recommend.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible temperature can’t trust it. Would not recommend. Very frustrating. Cooks way to high. You can hear it feeding pellets even when it’s 60 degrees too high. Had a pork tenderloin on and after an hour and a half looked and it was cooking around 300 not 225 it was set at. Trying to solve this problem. Spent almost $2000 after taxes and really kicking myself now. Hopefully broil king will help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Pellet Grill on the market I've been using this grill for over a month and it works perfectly. The Broil King Pellet XL is a feature-rich, high quality, heavily built pellet grill that is second to none. It's as if Broil King assembled a group of Pitmasters and a design team in a room with a blank sheet of paper and this is what they've created. I looked at pellet grills priced from $500 to $3800 and this is by far the very best value, best-configured grill on the market under $1800 CAD - bar none. It is heavily constructed with it's cast iron reversible grates and 2mm tank-like construction. But also solves some of the day-to-day challenges of older style pellet grills such as ash and grease clean-out. It doesn't stop there however, they have also made it possible to change out pellets in-between cooks with a sliding hopper door, plus integrated storage racks for the included rotisserie. Did I mention the two meat probes that you can monitor via a WiFi or Bluetooth connection from your grill? Or the residential oven-like dial temperature controller with large, tilted back-lit LCD screen for easy viewing? The list goes on and on. There are some things which need tweaking but when comparing grills side-by-side, this is so far ahead of the competition as to be in its own category. Well done Broil King. This is my new favourite grill!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Maintenance/quality nightmare I've had this a couple years now and save your money.......so many issues. I maintain it, clean it, slowed down on my use, but I still have to take the auger out every time I want to use it. Even the littlest amount of leftover pellets, it jams so you have to spend the next hour cleaning it again. Now the heating element isn't working and I have to take it apart again to find the issue there....... I ended up just borrowing a friends Traeger and what a delight. doesn't get that hot, but the last time I used my Broilking at searing temperatures, it was a ball of fire.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Close but not quite there yet Over the past 20 years I have had 17 different smokers (horizon stick burners, G eggs, Weber Summit charcoal, BK Keg, etc. )between my home and lake properties. This was the 3rd pellet grill I've bought now (first two were GMG models). I bought the BK regal 500 because of the cooking size and the heavy lid for extra insulation and smoke leakage protection. The assemble was easy and the product is definitly built with quality. I normally cook over full wood and charcoal but at the cottage nothing is more convenient then a set it and forget it smoker. I could not have been more excited about this pellet smoker but it has some "issues". It takes very long to get to smoking temp. - almost 30 minutes before it settled into a zone (twice as long as my old GMG Bowie) the second thing is the heat distribution. It was wierd because the coolest part of the grill was right above the firebox. The left and right sides are actually hotter (with no water pan)For the good, once you learn the hot and cool spots, you can really cook well on this product. The ash removal system, double food temp probes, reversible cast iron grills....all great features. In the first 7 days I did a full packer brisket (prime), reverse sear tomahawk (605 for the final sear), chicken on the rotisserie, pork shoulder (pulled pork), etc. PICS ATTACHED...every thing turned out amazing for a pellet smoker. I actually think most pellet grills are never "great" because of the heat retention and lack of smoke depth but the average person could do a really great job with a little practice....Don't follow BK's rib temps though...bad. This is one of the best pellet smokers in this price range for sure but it still needs some tweaking. If you have never had a pellet smoker before, this is a great unit to start with

Rated 1 out of 5 by from controller problems I bought the Broil King pellet grill a year ago. Since the beginning, I had controller problems and it had to be replaced 3 times. The last time was in the late fall last year when Broil King finally sent me one. I had it installed and turned it on. After about an hour it seemed to settle in to the temperature I set. So, I shut it off, and stored it for the winter. This spring I started it up. The screen on the controller stayed blank for several minutes. After tapping the screen several times, it finally came on. I wanted to roast a pork loin. After one hour and twenty minutes, I finally gave up and turned it off and did the pork loin on my Imperial 590. I am replacing this pellet grill with a competitors product. Too bad, Broil King, I thought you would have a great product. I was wrong. Granted, it is built like a tank, but, your software stinks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible I bought this in the summertime, I wish I had a time machine to go back and talk myself out of it.I bought it mainly to use as a smoker but also liked that it would heat up enough to sear/grill as well. As a smoker it has been a failure, mainly due to the temperature fluctuations every single time I cook on it. Example: today I put ribs on and set to 225F for 3 hours. One hour in, I get a notification from the app that the temp has just randomly hit 500! By the time I get back to get to the grill the ribs are already burnt and dried out and off to the trash. How is anyone supposed to smoke something when the grill randomly decides to more than double the temperature? I don't have the time to sit and monitor it to make sure its working properly, I count on the manufacturer to make a product that will work as advertised. This pellet grill is a waste of time, pellets, money and metal. I didn't spend $1700 to be a tester for Broil King to learn what not to do with a pellet grill. Lesson learned, back to propane I go.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great Grill - Terrible Electronics We bought this smoker about six weeks ago and have such mixed feelings. The biggest feeling we have is we paid way too much for what we actually got. The app is terrible. I called support for help with it almost three weeks ago. No one there can help, so they say someone is going to call you. No one ever did.I finally broke out a very expensive thermometer I use for roasts etc in the oven and it's always within 1-2 degrees of what the oven says it's at. The difference between the actual ambient temperature in the smoker was to what the smoker said it was at was between 35-65 degrees. I called support again and they will be sending me out replacement parts ... once they are in stock again. We paid way too much for a grill that needs constant supervision to maintain a proper temperature and to have to do maintenance six weeks into owning to it. My father bought a different smoker for less than half the price a couple of years ago and has never had to do anything to make it work perfectly, but it doesn't have a "fancy" app either.I should have listened to Dad to save a lot of money and a lot of frustration.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Robust build; gremlins in the controls Very impressive build quality—complete with an insulated lid and thick gasket. Has all the features some of the newest pellet grills have—and they all come standard (wifi, app-controller, rotisserie). The thing that loses all the stars started four cooks in, when the grill wouldn’t heat up. A call to customer service to report the systems was met with cynicism—the unit couldn’t possibly be doing what I said it was. I finally convinced them to send something along—a new hot rod (which heats the pellets)—which arrived quickly. When I took the unit apart and replaced the hot rod—a quick process That requires very little “handyman” skills—the problem persisted. Must be the controller! Weeks and weeks went by with no controller in the mail. After three months of ownership (but over two months of it being an expensive lawn ornament) and nothing more than pushed timelines working directly with the manufacturer I hit my breaking point and engaged the the place that sold me the unit. Sixty minutes after reaching out to the retailer a controller was in the mail to their shop, a complimentary service call had been booked, and i was much closer to having a resolution. Major kudos to the retailer; not so much for Onward. I lost the summer because of their supply challenges. The new controller still behaves unusually—just today during the startup cycle it shut itself off after 20 minutes—but has been bumping along and holding temp well after I restarted it. A bit nervous to leave it on long cooks unattended—but I purchased the unit to do just that (thanks to the app, which gets dumped on in forums, but I don’t mind using at all). Hopefully the controller challenges are growing pains. I love buying from a Canadian company. And I would buy another product from the retailer in a second based on their commitment to making it right.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremely poor quality materials I purchased this unit from TA Appliance in Barrie Ontario Canada in May of 2022. The unit works well and my issue is the extremely poor materials it is made from. The back of the main fire smoker is completely peeling and rust by September of 2022. I uncovered the smoker this week for the first time in 2023 and the lid for the pellet hopper is rusting in one corner and the back of the unit is continued to rust and the coating continues to peel and flake off. This is not my first broil king product and the entire reason I chose Broil King over Treager was based on my past owner ship and quality BBQ's.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from May be a 5 star, but time will tell I bought this grill sight-unseen through a recommendation from Abt (Chicago). I almost gave up on pellet grills as the augers kept failing. Humidity is a major problem here, the pellets would break apart and come back together so hard it would jam the auger and burn out the motor. I am more careful to clear out the pellets after each cook now. As for the Broil King: superior build, superior control panel. I would give it 5 stars but the only thing I have not been able to test... is longevity, of course. But so far, so good. As for temp variation... yes, there is some during the first 30 minutes to an hour, but it does even out. I can live with that as otherwise it is performing very well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed with this smoker I purchased this smoker because I had heard such good things about it especially about how well it held its temperature. It turns out the exact opposite is true. It does not seem to matter how many times I set the temperature at 280F the temperature drops down drastically. Also there seems to be very little smoke.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great smoker but.... I am new to smoking and did a lot of research into buying a grill and found this to be the best bang for dollar. With insulated lid and higher cooking temperature it suited all , my needs. That being said I have not had great success with the remote app. I did speak with someone at CS and they assured me someone would call to help rectify. That was 8 weeks ago. So I called again and was assured it would get resolved, that was 2 weeks ago. So app is still not functional for anything at all. This part has been a big disappointment as it would be nice to monitor temp and probe temps from afar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Masterful Grill For The Grillmaster This bad boy is second to none. First off, it is built like a tank. I had been looking at pellet grills for their versatility, since my previous smoker died the morning of Thanksgiving 2018. I compared dozens of brands, read reviews, and visited forums. Just about all of them are made in China or Taiwan, NOT THIS ONE. This magnificent creature is made in North America, by North Americans. It might not be USA made, but Canada is as close as you can get. The thickness of the metal is solid, everything fits together the way it should, and at 250 pounds out of the box, it's the pellet grill heavyweight champion of the world. It is heavy, so if you are not as impatient as I was, have a buddy help you. The grill and I weigh the same, so I was able to stand it up without damaging it, after I installed the legs, by myself. I am fortunate to have a Wi-Fi extender for my smart garage door opener, get the unit paired to my phone and connected via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth was seemless. I recommend having a strong and not wonky signal for it. Don't complain if you don't stay connected; Wi-Fi extenders are cheap. Look for a cheap one on various sites, new or used. Don't cheap out. For God's sake, you just spent over a $K on a grill. I already did the initial burn in, seasoned it, and completed one rather marvelous cook on it. For its maiden voyage, I smoked and reverse seared, two Delmonico ribeyes, two New York strips, and a lovely tri-tip. Since it was the first time I used it, I could probably do better next time as far as the grill marks on the meat, but the taste and looks speak for themselves. Two days later, I smoke/roasted a fresh, organic, never frozen whole chicken, using the rotisserie. That weekend, I did about 35 hamburgers. I was very much wanting to do either a frozen or take-and-bake pizza on there, but it's Wisconsin, in winter, and wouldn't ya know it, it got cold. I've had no connection problems, and no issues with the app whatsoever. I think most complaints are just user/operator error. Before you whine and post a 1-star review from your safe-space and/or parents' basement, try reaching out to get help. Companies can be misrepresented with negative reviews, because people don't do their due diligence first, and then reach out for help. Ron has been more than accommodating by chat or email, when I have needed anything.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great smoker! The smoker was easy to assemble, very well built. My only issue was installing the wheels, the threads were painted over making it difficult to tighten the nuts, one of the studs actually broke off but I was able to fix it. Operation wise it has been good, the temperature probes are garbage, both read very different temps so I rely on my own manual probe. The app works but I don’t rely on it 100% because it tends to glitch out half the time. The auger definitely doesn’t like larger pellets so get the smallest ones available. Other than those few small things it’s been very reliable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Piece of Junk - Poor Customer Support I bought this pellet grill in September. It hasn't worked since I bought it. OMC has shipped out parts, under warranty, that I had to install myself. Still doesn't come to temperature and will often extinguish while cooking. Broil King/OMC will not offer any compensation or support other than shipping out more parts that I have to install on my own.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst product I‘ve bought in my life I bought this about 2 years ago and will throw it into the garbage dump this coming weekend (not easy to get rid of a 200 pounds monster in your backyard).I really, really wanted to love this grill and it does produce great results when it works properly, but it rarely does. Mine produced massive amounts of black soot at higher temperatures from the beginning (above ca. 220°C). It took me a year (!!!) to get a customer service response (US customer service declines to handle international requests, customer service in Europe is outsourced to distributors and basically non-existent), eventually the retailer who sold it to me helped me to get several replacement parts. And, after replacing several parts, the grill actually worked fine for a couple of months until it started to produce soot again - at a level which is not acceptable (it produces black smoke that smells like an old diesel engine and all food is covered with a black greasy film). Now, I‘m back to square one with customer service - i.e., no responses.I‘ve decided that I‘ve had enough and ordered a Kamado charcoal grill (that can smoke as well). The Broilking will go to the garbage dump - which is a shame for such an expensive product, but I just don‘t want to deal with it any longer.
