South African Boerewors

This dish makes me so happy in so many ways. The rice, I swear I would eat it on it’s own. Legit amazing. I do love a good smoked sausage too. Together, these are a match made in heaven. Don’t hesitate! Get on this!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 coil of South African Boerwors Sausage – stuck with 2 skewers. One at 12 and 6, one at 3 and 9, to hold it in place.
  • 1 cup Long Grain White Rice
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 2 tsp Ground Turmeric
  • 2 ½ tbsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • ½ Golden Raisins ( sub in Dark Raisins if you wish! )
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 3 cups Boiling Water

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat your grill to 350°f (177°C) and place the pot you are going to cook in on the grill.
  2. Once the grill is up to temp, add all the ingredients except for the water into the pot and give it a good stir, melting the butter and allowing it to coat the rice. Add the boiling water and cover the pot with foil or an ovenproof lid. Place your sausage coil in the grill as well and close it up. This will cook for roughly 25 min. Check at about the 20 min mark to see if the rice has absorbed the water.
  3. Once the rice is done, remove from the grill and fluff. Set aside and keep warm till the sausage is done cooking.
  4. Garnish and serve!

Enjoy!
